AAB Performance Awards
We are excited to announce that starting with our 2017-2018 season we will implement the American Academy of Ballet Performance Awards into our Youth Ballet program.
What are the AAB Performance Awards?
The Performance Awards are a series of distinctive choreographic compositions over 12 levels, that your students perform before an audience of parents and friends. A most important aspect of the Performance Awards is that they are NOT competitive - each student receives a medal, and a certificate. A judge from another city will attend the performance, evaluate the dancers and award the medals and certificates to each student. The judges have been specially selected by Mignon Furman, the Director of the American Academy of Ballet, for their experience within the Performance Awards program; their knowledge of ballet; and their ability to relate to both teachers and students. The Performance Awards are a stress-free, enjoyable experience for teachers, dancers, and parents alike. There is no audience ticket charge for AAB, so that family members may all enjoy watching their young dancers perform!
How Do I Participate?
All Youth Ballet students will be invited to register for the Performance Awards in October 2017. Dancers will be assigned a “Level” upon registration in which they will learn and perform on stage. The levels consist of port de bras, adage, allegro, and solo dances. Beginning levels learn and perform 3 pieces, higher levels up to 5 pieces. Dancers will learn the material in their ballet class. Participation in the awards is optional. The Performance Awards will be held at Ballet U in February 2018, exact date TBD.
The participation fee for all AAB Performance Awards dancers ranges from $40-80, depending on level. This includes cost coverage for judges for performance, certificate and medal. Audience tickets are FREE!
