Historical Dance Workshop

with Judy Ferreri

SUNDAY, March 10, 1:00-2:30 pm TEENS and ADULTS

SUNDAY, March 24, 1:00-2:30 pm TEENS and ADULTS

The same material will be covered at both workshops. Beginners welcome!

Learning the origins of the different dance forms will enhance your ballet experience.

We’ll open with the majestic Polonaise, followed by the elegant Minuet, the playful Gavotte, the energetic Mazurka, the lively Jig, and close with the drama of the Waltz.

Understanding the rich historical context of each dance will make the steps more meaningful.

Historical dance is fun and enriching to learn. It doesn’t require years of ballet training. You’ll learn the historical origin of each dance and the ballets and operas which use the dance. You’ll also learn the appropriate bow, the basic steps and a choreographed sequence. You will find out which dances gave birth to the glissade, the pas de bourrée, the cabriole, and many other ballet steps we use every day in class and performance.

Optional: long skirts or tea length skirts and character shoes. Bring your own skirt or use one provided by us.

$20 per class or one punch if you use a class card
